We offer a wide range of tour packages with which you can get an opportunity to explore the Tanjore Big temple which was constructed by the great ruler Raja Raja Cholan more than 1000 years ago. It is truly an astonishing structure; the architecture is so precise that one will marvel at its creativity. The Gopuram over the sanctum sanctorum is a breathtaking 216 feet in height. With the Tanjore tour package, you can get to explore the enchanting beauty of this renowned temple the Nandi sitting guard at the entrance is a mesmerising 13 feet tall and 16 feet long and is the tallest Nandi in the world. The temple has numerous hidden secret passages that lead to the King’s palace for his safe entry into the sanctum. There is also a platform on the first level of the Gopuram where it is said Raja Raja Cholan stood to perform abhisheka to the divine Lingam.

The whole structure is made of granite, perhaps the first granite structure in India. Erected with the help of a fleet of elephants with mechanical devices quite astonishing at the time, the final Vahan at the top of the Gopuram is a good 80 tons in weight. The most stunning feature of the Gopuram though is the fact that the sun never casts a shadow on the ground around it at any time. The original Nandi for Brihadeeshwarar is in front of the flag mast within the temple. Later during the Nayak period, the huge bull was made outside with its own sculpted mandapa.

While visiting Tanjavur keep enough time to spend at the great temple and marvel at its architecture. While sightseeing at Tanjavur, a visit to the Tanja Mamani Temple and the Vijayanagar Fort are a must. Built by the Nayaks in the 15th Century, the present-day ruins of the Vijayanagar Fort show the grandeur of the royalty of the period. The fort complex includes the Thanjavur Palace, Sangeetha Mahal, The Siva Gangai Gardens as well as the Saraswathi Mahal Library.

The Tanjai Mamani temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams and a revered temple for Lord Vishnu in his Narasimha Avatars. The speciality of the temple is the 3 Vishnu sanctums within the complex with his respective consort, all in the Narasimha Avatar. The golden idol of Kamakshi in the Bangaru Kamakshi Temple is also a must-see. The gold idol was several times saved from the greedy clutches of invaders through the centuries and had to be secretly taken away. On one occasion the idol’s face was made black and swathed in cloth to appear like a baby and spirited away. Later the idol was again consecrated in the main sannadi. The deity’s face is still black.

A Tanjore tour package comprising all these unique places can be tailored to suit your time and budget. Reaching Thanjavur is possible by train and road from almost all major cities in India. The nearest airport is Trichy which is only 60 km from Tanjore.

We have so many options for touring Thanjavur and its nearby places. All you need to do is decide how many days you have to spend and we will make your trip to Tanjore a memorable experience that you’ll fondly remember.
