Matheran is a small hill station town nuzzled in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra. Famous for its picturesque viewing points Matheran is a photographer's delight. One such viewing point is the Porcupine Point. Named so because of its peculiar contour resembling a porcupine, the point is also known as the Sunset Point.
Nature has blessed this place with unparalleled beauty. You will find greenery wherever your eyes take your vision. Contemplate the vagaries of life as you behold a breathtaking sunset at this point. The Porcupine Point contrary to its name is not at all stingy but instead has a soothing effect on your mind and body.
Take in the scintillating view of the Prabalgad Fort, as you let the serenity of the environment engulf you. From the Porcupine Point of Matheran, one can enjoy a jaw-dropping view from the imperial cathedral rocks located on the western side of this place. There are two ways to reach the Porcupine Point. One is on foot while the other is on horseback. Although both of them are good ways to reach here, we prefer trekking your way up here.
You will see old British style cottages, lush green mountainous forest, and pure natural beauty as you climb your way up here. This place is situated just 2 km from the Matheran railway station. The Mumbai International Airport and the Pune Airport are the two nearest airports from Matheran. Both airports are well-connected with important international destinations like London, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
Matheran is well connected with major cities of Maharashtra like Mumbai and Pune via a good road network.
