Bangaram Island can be reached from the nearest Island of Agatti where the archipelago’s only airstrip is located. The Raja of Cannannore left the shores of Kerala and a search party was sent after him. While searching for him, they accidentally landed on the island of Bangaram and Agatti. So Bangaram was one of the first islands to be discovered in the archipelago. Since 1956, after Indian Independence, the Islands got the status of Union Territory and came to be known as Lakshadweep from 1973.
