The temple city Govardhan is also home to many sacred ponds that are spiritually connected to the life of Sri Krishna. Radha Kund and Shyam Kund are two of the most sacred pond in Govardhan, Mathura. The ponds are located at the foot of the Govardhana hill in a village named Arita. This pond is believed to be the sacred place on the bank of which Sri Radha and Sri Krishna spend time with each other.
Every bit of Govardhan is associated with the life of Sri Krishna and Shyam Kund is connected to the life of Sri Krishna in a very special way. Thus the place has a great spiritual significance that attracts the devotees of Sri Krishna.
It is believed that Sri Krishna created this pond by striking his heel on the ground and all the holy places in the world entered the Kund in the form of water. Being influenced by this act of Sri Krishna, Sri Radha also created a pond called as Radha Kund beside the Shyam Kund and that pond was also filled with holy places in the form of water.
Thus the most sacred ponds Radha Kund and Shyam Kunda were created. The ponds contain sacred water in its purest form even today. Pilgrims from across the world come to take a sacred dip in these ponds with the belief that it will wash off all their bodily sins. Radha Kund-Shyam Kund is the prime center of salvation and spirituality that holds a special place in the hearts of devotees of Sri Krishna.
