History of Alamgir Mosque:
Locating at a prominent site of Panchganga Ghats, the Alamgir mosque Varanasi was built by Aurangzeb on the site of a large Vishnu temple. Aurangzeb demolishes the temple and built the mosque over the ruins of the temple. It is also known by the name of Beni Madhav ka Darera, or the Aurangzeb’s Mosque.
The mosque was a skillful construction of Aurangzeb. Being the largest structure located on the banks of river Ganges, the mosque was constructed during the invasions of Mughals in India. The Varanasi mosque portrays the subtle distinctions of the architecture, which is a combination of the Mughal and Indian styles.
