Ooty Lake is a popular tourist place in the state of Tamil Nadu. Built-in 1825, the lake is 2.5 kilometers long and passes through the Nilgiri Hills. Ooty Lake is the most popular place for tourists visiting Ooty. The lake is man-made, built by John Sullivan in 1824 and is spread over an area of about 65 acres. During the monsoon, this lake was built by collecting the water flowing from the mountains. However, it was evacuated about three times due to its overfilling. It was constructed with the purpose of fishing by the local fishermen. The lake is no longer in its actual shape and has become smaller due to several geographical factors and the formation of bus stands, racecourses, and lake parks. Boating facility is available here, this lake is popular among tourists. You can enjoy the beauty here by taking a walk along its calm waters. In fact, in the month of May, a boating race is organized by the state government which lasts for two days.

The boathouse established in Ooty Lake is the major tourist attraction. The magnificent waters of the lake consist of tall eucalyptus trees lined on the edges of the lake. It is a visual treat for the tourists. You can also enjoy horse riding and can also see several streams that are flowing down the hills. This is the best site for the people who are into nature photography. The lake is packed with wonderful water birds with the exotic Nilgiri mountain ranges in the backdrop.
Ooty Lake is filled with a lot of fun activities. Go on a ride by hiring paddle boats, rowing boats, and motorboats from the boathouse there. Kids can also enjoy the ride on the mini-train by paying Rs 10 per child and take a quick tour of the Ooty Lake. Since there are a lot of visitors during weekends, it is advisable to visit the lake during weekdays
The popular song “Dil Deewana” Salman Khan's film “Main Pyar Kiya” was shot here. There are some shops around the district, which sell various items locally. You can also get accommodation at some of the best hotels near Ooty Lake.
How to reach
Ooty Lake is situated at a distance of 2 km from the railway station and one can hire an auto-rickshaw to reach there. One can commute within the city by taxi or cab as well.

Ooty experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year. Winter season is the best time to visit here as the average temperature is 25 degrees Celsius which makes it the perfect time for sightseeing.
