Marina Beach is a beautiful beach in Chennai. The beach is situated along the Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the Fort of St. George at the northern end of the city. Marina Beach is about 13 km long. It is the largest in India and the second largest sea border in the world. 

Due to its unique beauty, Marina Beach Chennai is a very popular beach among tourists. The stretch from St. George Fort to Mahabalipuram. Marina Beach looks very attractive at sunset. Historical Significance

Marina Beach has a huge historical significance associated with it. The beach was nothing but just a mere strip of mud-filled mudskippers before the Madras Harbor was constructed because of the continuous deposits of sand, the beach was created on the present-day road in 1881. It was Mountstuart Elphinstone the then governor of Madras who first discovered the immaculate beauty of Marina Beach. He then ordered to build a boulevard along the stretch of sand. The beach was meticulously constructed from 1881 to 1886 and then in 1884, it was inaugurated as the Madras Marina by Elphinstone himself. Several structures were when built along the coastline of the Marina beach starting the 19th century.

How to Reach

Chennai has an International Airport which is situated at a distance of 20 km from the beach. The nearest railway station is Chennai Central which is situated 5 km from the beach. One can easily get a taxi or cab from these places for the beach.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Marina Beach is between November and February. The climate is pleasant during this time and you are not tortured by the hot and humid weather that Chennai is notorious for. The weather is fairly cooler and lovely in the mornings and evenings.
