Rajasthan is famous not only for its royal palaces and forts but also for its ancient temples. One such most revered and popular temple of this state is the Lakshmi Nath Temple in Jaisalmer. This temple is situated in the Jaisalmer Fort which is perched on the Trikuta Hill in Jaisalmer. It is one of the oldest temples in the city and which was built-in 1494 during the reign of Rao Lunkaran. This temple is a must-visit site in the beautiful city of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, both of whom hold a high place in Hindu mythology. While Lord Vishnu is considered to be the Protector of all humanity, Goddess Lakshmi is considered to be the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Both are husband and wife in Hindu Mythology.
A respected Brahman by the name of Sen Pal Shakdwipi is believed to have installed the idols in the temple of Laxmi Nath. The pillars supporting the temple of Lakshmi Nath have been brought here from the village of Lodhruva. The temple was subsequently renovated by Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji. Many devotees flock here to seek the blessing of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu.
The ceiling and walls of this famous temple are adorned with mesmerizing paintings of other Gods and Goddesses of Hindu mythology. Although the temple is simple in its architecture, silver facade ornaments add to the beauty of this temple.
While Jodhpur is the nearest airport from this temple while the Jaisalmer Railway Station is the nearest railway station through which you could reach this beautiful temple. Both the Jodhpur Airport and the Jaisalmer Railway Station are well connected with the major cities in India.
As is the case with most parts of Rajasthan, you should avoid visiting Jaisalmer during the sweltering summer months. Try to visit once the winter sets in, during the October-February months.
