How To Reach Amritsar

Home to the renowned Golden Temple, Amritsar has been attracting visitors from all across the globe owing to its legendary landmarks. It is one of the most frequented places in India and well-connected with the rest of the country. How to reach Amritsar is not a big problem as the city is easily reachable through all modes of transportation like flight, train and by road. Amritsar has its own airport namely Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport which is located 10 km from the city centre. It serves several passengers every day. The airport has regular flights and is well connected with various cities in India, such as Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Srinagar, as well as to international cities such as Birmingham, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Ashgabat, and Tashkent. It takes around 15 to 20 minutes to drive from the airport to the city. Many cabs are available to reach the city from the airport.

Tourists can travel to Amritsar by road and it is one of the most convenient ways of traveling to the city. Amritsar lies on National Highway 1, which is a part of the Grand Trunk Road, one of Asia's longest and oldest major roads. The highway connects Amritsar to many cities in north-west India such as Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Panipat, and New Delhi. The city is also connected to Pakistan via Delhi-Lahore Bus, which travels on the highway. Punjab Roadways is a major bus service that serves commuters traveling to other cities and towns in Punjab and its neighboring states. It has a large fleet of buses, which includes both air-conditioned buses and non-air-conditioned buses.

Amritsar Junction Railway Station connects the city to various towns and cities in the country such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Patna. Some of the trains originating from Amritsar are Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Amritsar Express, Amritsar Saharsa Garib Rath Express, Golden Temple Mail and Paschim Express. Superfast trains such as Amritsar Chandigarh Superfast Express, Amritsar Shatabdi Express and New Delhi Amritsar Swarna Shatabdi Express also serve commuters. The city is also connected to Lahore in Pakistan, by a special train known as Samjhauta Express.
