Lady Hydari Park

Lady Hydari Park is one of the popular Shillong tourist places among locals and tourists. The park is located in the heart of the city with an abundance of plants and flowers. The best months to visit this park is from April to October when the flowers bloom. This sprawling park is named after the first lady of the province and boasts of different species of birds and reptiles. The park accommodates 73 species of birds and over 100 species of reptiles.

Ward's Lake

Ward's Lake is a stunning manmade lake that is named after the then Chief Commissioner of Assam, Sir William Ward. This beautiful little lake is surrounded by a short garden where people can enjoy the walks and boating facilities. During the evening hours, a large number of tourists thrive in this area and enjoy their time with their loved ones. This lake is also known as Polok Lake which offers the enchanting view during the sunset.

Capt. Williamson Sangma State Museum

This is a Government Museum that comes under the control of the Art and Culture Department. It is a perfect place for travelers who are interested to get knowledge about the ethnic tribal culture and tradition. This place offers insights into the lifestyle of the locals. This museum is located in the State Central Library complex where monuments for the great patriots of the state had been erected beside the statue of Smt. Indira Gandhi and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures

This institution accommodates a museum, research, and publication center in the premises. This place is promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of North East India -a unique fusion of all the sister states under one roof.

Spread over a sprawling area of 56,000 square feet of floor space and it is a seven-story building. This place ranks among the top 36 or so cultural centers of its kind in the Salesian world. Museums and Cultural Centres in practice appear to be a significant aspect of the Salesian mission

This is a hexagonal shape building and the seven floors of this centre represent the seven states of North East India.

The centre comprises seventeen galleries that depict cultural artifacts and paintings. They offer study and research facilities throughout its specialized library of 10,000 volumes, a media hall and a conference hall. It is frequented by school students and older research students and anthropologists. This place is a paradise for the anthropologist.

Golf Course

It is one of the oldest and best natural golf courses in the world. It is considered to be the "Gleneagle of the East" by the United States Golf Association and Museum. The golf course is set amidst the thick groves of pine and rhododendron trees at an altitude of 5200 ft. This golf course was built in 1898 as a 9 (nine) hole course and later converted into an 18 (eighteen) hole course in 1924 by Captain Jackson and C. K. Rhodes.

Spread Eagle Falls

These falls have located on the outskirts of the city in the Shillong Cantonment. The glistening waterfall looks like an eagle with wings spread. Hence the name Spread Eagle Falls. The falls is locally known as Umkaliar or the falls into which Ka Liar slipped. This place is a treat to the eyes and a paradise for the nature lovers.

Sweet Falls

These falls are situated near Happy Valley and located at a distance of about eight kilometers from Shillong. This falls looks like a straight pencil of water emerging from a large size water pipe, as it drops vertically over a distance exceeding two hundred feet. This place is most suitable for a picnic and spends some time away from the hustle-bustle of the city.

Elephant Falls

Elephant Falls is situated at a distance of 12 km from the city. It is located on the outskirts of the city and here the mountain stream falls through two consecutive waterfalls. In a short way away from the falls, the two smaller falls are present which are also beautiful and captivating. The name of these falls is Wei Iaplam Falls and the Wir Phang Falls. A well-paved footpath and a small wooden bridge facilitate access to these falls.

Shillong Peak

Shillong Peak is an extravagant picnic spot which is perched at an altitude of 1965 meters above sea level. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the city. Shillong Peak offers a picturesque view of the countryside. The peak is also the highest point of the region and it is one of the famous tourist places near Shillong.
