Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India located in the ancient city of Ujjain. This temple is situated on the banks of the Rudra Sagar Lake in the state of Madhya Pradesh which is one of the most sacred and outstanding pilgrimage places of the Hindus. In the Mahakaleshwar Temple Ujjain, Lord Shiva is worshiped in the south-facing Mahakaleshwar Mahadev. Bhasha Aarti is performed every morning in the morning during Mahakal. The specialty of this aarti is that it is used to decorate Mahakal with the ashes of the dead. This place is considered to be the holy abode of Lord Shiva. History

Mahakaleshwar Temple is counted among the top 10 Tantra temples of India. Bhasma-Aarti (ash ritual) is performed only in this temple and nowhere else. Talking about the history of Mahakaleshwar, let us tell that from 1107 to 1728, the Yavanas ruled Ujjain. Ancient traditions of Hindus were almost destroyed during this reign. After this, Marathas attacked the Malwa region in 1690. Then on 29 November 1728, the Maratha rulers ruled Malwa. After this, the lost glory and glory of Ujjain came back again. After that, it remained the capital of Malwa from 1731 to 1728. There were 2 major incidents here at the time of the suzerainty of Marathas. The first incident was that the first Mahakaleshwar temple located here was rebuilt and the lost reputation of Jyotirlinga was restored. Apart from this, Simhastha Parv Snan was established here which was a very special achievement. Later the Mahakaleshwar Temple Ujjain was expanded by Raja Bhoj.

Architecture

Mahakaleshwar Temple is a beautiful and artistic combination of Maratha, Bhumij and Chalukya styles of architecture. This holy temple is situated near a lake in a huge courtyard surrounded by huge walls. The Mahakaleshwar Temple Ujjain has five floors, one of which is located inside the ground. Here the huge idol of Mahakaleshwar is located in the sanctum sanctorum (inside the ground) and it is Dakshina-murti, which means south facing statue. This special thing is found only in the Mahakaleshwar temple.

The lingas of Omkareshwar and Nagachandreshwar are established in the middle and upper parts of this beautiful temple of Mahakaleshwar. But you can see the idol of Nagachandreshwar only on the occasion of Nag Panchami because it is opened only to the public on this special occasion. There is also a large pool in the premises of this temple which is known as Koti Tirtha. Outside this large pool is a large verandah, which has the entrance to the passage leading to the sanctum sanctorum. Small size pictures of Ganesh, Karthikeya, and Parvati are also seen at this place. The enigmatic silver covering the roof of the sanctum sanctorum here enhances the grandeur of this shrine. The temple has a chamber in the northern part of the verandah in which pictures of Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Avantika are worshiped.

Mahakaleshwar is situated in Ujjain and the city is well-connected with the major cities of the Madhya Pradesh. The city has its railway station and the nearest airport is situated in Indore. One can hire a taxi and cab from the respective place to the temple. Auto rickshaw and rickshaw are the affordable transports to traverse within the city.
