Jahaz Mahal Mandu was built during the reign of Sultan Ghiyas-Ud -Din Khilji, who believed to have as many as 15,000 women as his consorts. To accommodate the women belonging to the royal consortium, this palace was built. Originally, Mandu was the capital of the Paramara Dynasty. Later, it came under the Khilji Dynasty which made it a stronghold. Many invasions took place and the administration of Mandu went to several other kingdoms. However, the monumental ruins mainly belong to the Khilji Dynasty. During the transfer of Malwa from Dhar to Mandu many artisans were also transferred and brought here to build forts, palaces, tombs, museums, etc. these artisans who came from Delhi were experts in the Tughlaq style of the architecture which can be depicted through the simplicity in planning and design. Jahaz Mahal architecture is a perfect example of the Mughal architectural style.

Jahaz Mahal history has belonged to the Khilji Dynasty and it was built during the latter part of the 15th century, on a narrow strip of land between two lakes called the Munj Talao to the west and the Kapur Talao to the east. This palace has an adjoining palace also known as the Taweli Mahal. There are a number of water bodies and fountains around the palace and the beautiful garden circling it. There is also a fantastic bath pool at the backside of the Jahaz Mahal.

Visit during the daytime is preferable as there is no proper lighting facility after sundown. Mandu, the city of joy in the heart of incredible India, is often pertained to as the site of the perpetual love affair of Baz Bahadur and Roopmati. The structure is surrounded by the pond water and seems to be floating gently above that surface of the water so named Jahaz Mahal. Jahaz means Ship, Mahal means Palace.

Jahaz Mahal is situated between the two artificial lakes in Mandu. This two-storied architectural is so named as it appears as a ship floating in the water.

One can hire a cab or taxi from the respective airport or station for the Mandu. Another convenient option is to catch a bus. At the location itself, it is best to hire a taxi to explore the tourist attractions.

Best time to visit Jahaz Mahal

Jahaz Mahal Mandu is located in Madhya Pradesh which experiences moderate weather throughout the year. The summers are a quiet hot and receive an occasional rainfall during the monsoon season. The winters are the best time to visit here from October to March when the weather remains comfortable and favorable for the excursion.
