About Hoshang Shah's Tomb
Hoshang Shah tomb, the first marble tomb made in loving memory of Hoshang Shah, the first Islamic king of the Malwa region of Central India. This tomb is reputed as the oldest marble mausoleum and it corned with the tiny crescent which is believed to be imported from Persia or Mesopotamia. This marble edifice is an architectural phenomenon and lures a large number of tourists from all over the country. He was also known as Alp Khan before he took the title Hoshang Shah Gori after being crowned the ruler of Malwa. His father, Dilawar Khan Gori had belonged to the court of Firoz Shah Tughlaq, the Sultan of Delhi. The tomb is located in Mandu, an important tourist destination as the place is ideal for exploring the history and the true culture of India.
Hoshang Shah Tomb Architecture
The tomb of Hoshang Shah was so beautiful that it impressed Shah Jahan and he decided to send his four of his architects before the construction of the Taj Mahal. It is a wonderful example of Afghan art and architecture. At the center of the mausoleum, lies the main sarcophagus of Hoshang Shah shaped into a casket with receding bands and a molded mihrab at the top with Hindu designs. A few other graves are also seen in the main chambers with three of them made of marble. To connect with the place we can reach in various ways. How to Reach Hoshang Shah Tomb
The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar National Airport which is located at the distance of 94 km and the Indore railway station is the nearest railway station which is situated at a distance of 96 km. One can easily avail taxi or cab from the airport and railway station to the Mandu. Gangwal ISBT and Navlakha ISBT Indore are the nearest buses stand from the monument where one can easily arrive by bus or taxi. The opening time of the tomb is 6:00 am and the closing time is 6:00 pm. We have to pay an entrance fee for all the visitors. There are various other tourist places nearby like Ship Palace(Jahaz Mahal), Rani Roopmati Pavilion, Jama Masjid, Hindola Mahal, etc.
Best Time to Visit Hoshang Shah Tomb Mandu
The best time to visit this place is during the winter season from the months of October to March as the temperature almost lies nearby the 15 degrees Celsius which is a very comfortable and pleasant climatic condition to explore the historical monument. During the summer season, it becomes almost impossible to go on an exploration tour due to the scorching heat. And in the monsoon season, one can explore the tomb as the greenery and surroundings become so pleasing but the heavy rainfall can hinder the tour. So carry the umbrella if you wish to visit this place in the rainy season.
