The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya in Bhopal is located in a nearly 200-acre enclosure on the rocky peaks of Shyamala Hill, located on the side of the large lake in Bhopal city ​​of Madhya Pradesh. The museum also has 32 traditional and prehistoric painted sculptures. Opening of the types of habitats of tribes in the museum complex, with materials and tangible objects reflecting the way of life of the diverse original societies of the country, built or replaced by the original inhabitants of forest, hill, seaside and other areas. The exhibition reveals the continuous tradition of human development.

The museum was renamed in March 1985 and was known as the Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya. Then in 1993, through a cabinet decision, the museum was renamed Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya Bhopal after the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. 

From here one gets a panoramic view of Bada Talab. The museum is claimed to be the largest open-air anthropological museum in the country. The museum was opened in 1977 so that people could learn about the history of mankind and be educated about anthropology. For this purpose, the museum organizes outdoor and indoor exhibitions throughout the year. The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya Bhopal showcases India's rich cultural heritage that provides a deep insight into the country's culture. Apart from this, the exhibits here also show the art and architecture of ancient India and information about them is also given. This museum shows the excavations and paintings done on many rocks about the prehistoric period of India. The indoor museum is known as the Veethi Sankalp and has 13 galleries that depict many of the biological and cultural facts related to anthropology.
