History of the Birla Temple

The reason Birla Mandir is also known as Lakshmi Narayan Temple is that it is dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi (the deity of wealth) and her consort, Vishnu who is also called Narayana. Again, a large number of devotees also flock to this place to pay homage to Shiva and his wife Parvati, besides Lakshmi and Vishnu. The temple is one of the oldest in Bhopal and was erected by the Birla Group, one of the famous industrial families. It was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. One can avail of the taxi or cab from the airport for the temple. Within the city, one can travel by the auto-rickshaw, buses, and by taxi.
