History Related to Yarab Tso Lake

During the Kargil war which took place in the year 1999, there had been conflicts among Indian and Pakistani Military. And since then the army of both the countries has been shown to have a heavy presence along the lines on either side of the Indo-Pak border.

Considered as one of the holiest and high elevation lakes in the Nubra Valley, Yarab Tso is profoundly worshipped among local people of the district. It is strictly prohibited not to wash your feet or attempt to swim in the lake and the board also mentioned the same. You can sit on the stones, inhaling the fresh and unpolluted mountain air, savoring the sight of bright supplication banners shuddering around the completely clear sea green/blue water and experience the feeling of smoothness it brings.

People can hire a taxi or cab from Leh and reach here easily. Tourists can also rent a bike drive to the Nubra Valley. The lake is situated at a distance of 15 km from Diskit Village. The nearest airport if the Leh Airport which is located at a distance of 130 km and it will take 5 hours to reach here.
