Construction of the Shanti Stupa Leh

The idea of building Shanti Stupa was by Japanese monk Nichidatsu Fuji. He wanted to bring Buddhism back to India and that is why he started the establishment of Shanti Pagoda from here. Shanti Stupa made Leh come alive. Shanti Stupa is authorized by Japanese and Buddhist monks of Ladakh, Gyomo Nakamura, and Kushok Bakula. This magnificent stupa was constructed between 1983 and 1984 during Indira Gandhi's government. Roadways were also built to reach the Shanti Stupa Leh.

Based on the stupa, the present Dalai Lama has a picture and some Buddhist artifacts remain. The main statue of Buddhist remains in the circle of religion, namely, the cycle of religion. You will see this at the first level of the stupa. The second level depicts the Buddha's birth, death and the defeat of enemies by his meditation. Apart from spreading peace and prosperity in the world, this stupa also symbolizes 2500 years of Buddhism. This stupa is also a symbol of the peace agreement between Japan and Leh.

How to reach Shanti Stupa?

By Air: -

Leh Airport is a military airport, so you have to go through the process of checking several times here. If you have an e-ticket, you should keep a copy of it in hand. If you do not have this, you can be prevented from entering Leh. This airport is connected to Chandigarh, New Delhi, and Srinagar. 

By Rail: - 

The nearest railway station from Leh is Pathankot and Chandigarh. However, both these places are 800 km away from Leh, so it takes 3 days to reach Leh from here. Very rarely is this route used for Leh. 

By Road: -

If you want to go on a thrilling trip then choose only the road to Leh. Tourists usually use bikes or cars to reach Leh, 473 km from Manali. Some people also come from Srinagar which is 434 km from here. Public buses will also be available in this city, which is not too expensive. You can also hire a taxi if you want to.

Best time to visit

Tourists can visit Shanti Stupa throughout the year while the best time to visit is during the summer season when the region experiences the warm weather. During winter season tourists can glare at the enchanting beauty of the city from the top of the stupa. But the region experiences extreme cold during this time.
