Best Time to Visit Alleppey

Summer Season (April to June):

Summer will be an offseason in Alleppey, not many people visit during this time. This season starts in March and continues until the end of May. This is when the temperatures soar to a maximum of 39°C which makes the day time scorching hot and it is not at all wise to visit Alleppey in this season. After the sunset, the minimum temperature will be somewhere around 26°C. Most of the crowd visit the city on the special occasion of Temple Festival which is held in March every year. It is a 10-day long festival full of zeal and vigor. Temple festival is one of the most celebrated festivals of Kerala where one can delve into the majestic beauty of this state.

Winter Season (October to March):

Winters are from October to February; this is the best time to visit Alleppey. The temperature in Alleppey during the season starting from November till February is somewhere between 18°C and 33°C. The houseboat rides on the backwaters of Alleppey are allowed during the winters every year. While the November to February is the best time to visit Alleppey houseboat. This time of the year witness the high demands of the houseboat tours.

The markets are filled with various activities and allure visitors from all across the world. You can be part of some important festivities that the local people celebrate in Alleppey, like the Chakkulathukavu Pongal which is being celebrated in November & December. There is also the beach festival which is organized annually in December & January. Lastly, the Chettikulangara Bharani is organized in February & March. Winter season is also the best time to visit Alleppey backwaters.

Monsoon Season (July to September):

The monsoon is not at all ideal time to visit Alleppey, which gets the substantial rainfall during this season and it begins in June and prevails till September. The rains may not be heavy in June and therefore this is a decent time to visit. But from the middle of July, it is not the right time to visit Alleppey. It is beneficial if you wish to visit here during the off-season as the terrains are transformed into lush green heaven. But there is a big concern about safety as the region is vulnerable to heavy rains. September can also carry a little relief. The rainfall is not heavy, and the picturesque beauty is a treat to watch. Waterways might be closed for the travelers. If you want to do boating or take a ride in the houseboat, then traveling to Alleppey during monsoons is not ideal. But then the most revered festivals of Kerala happens to celebrate during the monsoon season. The Onam festival and the Snake Boat Race held on the backwaters during September.
