The Madikeri Fort is a clay citadel that was built in the Coorg, in the 17th century by the King Mudduraja. There is a palace inside the Madikeri fort Coorg. This fort was revived by Tipu Sultan. In 1790, Dudvera Rajendra Wodeyar had established his authority on the fort. After 1834, the British conquered this fort. After 1812-1814, the fort was rebuilt by Lingarendra Vadiyar II. The palace has a statue of a turtle, and two large stones are placed at the site where two royal elephants were killed by King Veer Raja. There are many tales of adventure in this fort.
Inside the Madikeri Fort Coorg, there is a temple known as the Virabhadra Temple. The shrine was destroyed to convert to a church in 1855. It was later produced as a glass window by the St. Marx Church in the Gothic style. The structure was built for the third time in 1933, it was also brought up and a portion was also built. There is a two-story building at this place which is 110 feet high.

It is said that this mandapa where the kings preferred to relax. You can see all the surrounding from the mandapa as it stands on high ground. The mighty fort also consists of a few secret passages and pathways as well, and this adds to the mystery which excited the tourists.
