There are plenty of places to visit in the Island town of Rameshwaram. The Rameshwaram sightseeing tour gives you an opportunity to visit the temple of Ramanathaswamy the Eastern shore is a huge complex with 22 Theerthas or wells of holy water. Pilgrims take a dip in the ocean before making a circuit of the temple prakaras where the wells are located. Bathing with the holy waters it is said will wash your sins away. The shrine in the sanctum sanctorum is a Shivalingam and is worshipped as jyotirlingas or flame of fire. The surrounding pillared corridors are enormous and considered one of the longest in the world. The temple is abuzz with festivities in the holy month of Margazhi in December for Arudhra Darshanam and again in February for Maha Shivarathri. The marvellous architecture of the temple is representative of the Pandya kingdom of the 12th Century.

Indian Visit offers a wide range of Rameshwaram tour packages with which you can visit the Dhanushkodi which is the Land’s end from the Indian side and the closest point to Sri Lanka with evidence of a man-made bridge connecting the Island to Sri Lanka. It is assumed to be built by Lord Rama with his army of monkeys. There are, even today, floating stones in the Island which can be seen in the various Theerthas and temples. The Dhanushkodi beach is a lovely place to witness the spectacular Sunrise and Sunsets with only the vast expanse of the ocean waters around you. Other beaches around Rameshwaram where you can relax are the Olaikuda Beach, Ariyaman Beach and the Pamban Beach. The Ariyaman beach offers wonderful water sport activities like windsurfing and water scooter rides. A children’s park along the beach with a Sea World Aquarium for the kids to have a fun time with the sea creatures is a great attraction.

Also related to the Ramayana are the Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Agni Theerthas and the Jada Theertha where Rama is said to have washed his hair. A trek to the top of the Gandhamandhana Hill is well worth the effort as it gives a wonderful view of the Island and the far expanse of ocean and land. Other interesting places to visit are the Kothandaraman Temple and Panchamukha Hanuman Temple. The little island also has a water bird sanctuary where migratory birds can be spotted in season.

You can also visit the Pamban Island with the Rameshwaram holiday packages which have plenty of history, spirituality, architecture and science as well as plenty of beaches thrown in, so a visitor to Rameshwaram has no dearth of variety and one can spend a wonderful time discovering all that Rameshwaram has to offer.

The Madurai airport is the nearest airport from the Rameshwaram. Buses, taxis and private cabs operate from these two cities. The Pamban Bridge is a 2.35 km bridge connecting Mandapam on the mainland to Pamban on the island by rail. The road bridge running parallel to it also called Annai Indira Gandhi Bridge, gives a spectacular view of the rail bridge and the surrounding sea and land areas in a scenic panorama. You can customise a Rameshwaram tour package with the Indian Visit and design the itinerary with the help of our travel experts as per your requirements.
