Cattle with tinkling bells around their necks graze lazily on the grassy slopes and local townspeople live life festively herding their cattle and singing their quaint folk songs. So, if you want to get away from the jet setting life of the cities and relax in the wilderness, take a Khajjiar tour package and indulge yourself in a rejuvenating vacation.

Khajjiar is a hill station in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, around 24 km from Dalhousie. Forming a part of the foothills of the Dhauladhar range of the Western Himalayan belt, the hill station sits at an altitude of 1920 m above sea level. The topography of the place comprises distinctively of grasslands with meadows and pastures, dense but hospitable pine woods as well as a lake surrounded by a crescent-shaped grassy plateau and pine forests in the distance. The Himalayan snow peaks make up a spectacular backdrop to the entire scenery.

Khajjiar is not just a pretty place; it has plenty to offer the adventurous spirit. Adventure activities of paragliding, Zorbing, horse-riding, and trekking are offered by Khajjiar tour packages with expert guides and trainers. The Khajji Nag Temple dedicated to Serpent Lord is a 12th Century structure with intricate carvings and is a pilgrimage spot for devotees who visit all year round. The temple was built by King of Chamba Prithvi Singh. The interior of the temple is decorated with the images of the Pandavas as well as the defeated Kauravas from the Mahabharata on the ceiling of the corridor around the sanctum. The inner sanctum has a beautiful wood carved entrance. Idols of Nagas, Lord Shiva and Hadimba are installed in the temple. The Golden Devi temple, the Lord Shiva Statue and the Tibetan handicrafts center are must-visit places too.

Khajjiar Lake is a superb spot in the Khajjiar valley. The Lake has weeds called ‘Vacha’ that have overgrown along the edges. Due to the settlement of mud and dust over the weeds, the earth over the entire area is spongy. It is a unique lake with a fantastic view of the Dhauladhar peaks shining silver in the midday sun.

Kalatop wildlife sanctuary is a part of Khajjiar and is home to magnificent flora and fauna of the Himalayan foothills. Forests of deodar and fir make for ideal picnic spots and trekking terrain. The sanctuary is 30 square km park and is home to black bears, Serow, Himalayan black Martin, leopards, deer, barking Goral, Squirrels, Jackals, Langurs, and a variety of birds like Blackbirds, White-winged Blackbirds, Black-headed Jay, Rock Thrush, and the Canary Flycatcher. The River Ravi flows through the forest of coniferous and oak trees. Dain Kund is a trekking destination on the Dalhousie to Khajjiar route. The trek starts from Khajjiar, a moderate 3.5 km trek ending at the Pholani Devi temple in Dain Kund. The trek is appropriate for beginners and kids too and the views are simply spectacular from the camping site.

The locals are very hospitable and rooms can be booked at reasonable prices. The ideal time to visit Khajjiar would be in the summer between March and October. If you love snow then the best snow tires would be January and February subject to access to the area due to the snow. The local festivals of Shivaratri and Baisakhi are celebrated colorfully with devotion and fervor. Their main handiworks include metal ware, silver jewelry making which is very famous and pottery.

The quiet town has its charm and would be an ideal location for your honeymoon too. We have our pre-planned range of Khajjiar tours and Khajjiar honeymoon packages to choose from. Opt for one of the Khajjiar tours and come and taste the distinctive cuisine of the Paharis of Khajjiar!
