The Kanha National Park was originally a part of the Gond in 1880 where the two major tribes, Goondas and Bagas were based in central India. Even today, these two tribes have been living on the outskirts of the National Park. Subsequently, these two principal sanctuaries were divided into Hollen which spreads across 250 sq. km and Banjar spreading across 300 sq. km respectively. In 1862, the forest management rules revised the area of the park; then in 1879, the area was spread to 1949 sq. km and turned into an attractive national park.
The history of Kanha National Park is even more interesting when in 1933, Kanha received an appreciation from the world for his beautiful landscapes and wonderful high grounds. In 1991 and 2001, Kanha National Park was honored as the most favorable tourist national park by the Tourism of India. The lush green landscapes and the valleys inspired author Rudyard Kipling to pen his most important work “The Jungle Book”. The Kanha tiger reserve is the most attractive center of the National Park, is home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, which is an endangered species.
