Itinerary Details

Welcome to the land of Ahoms, the oldest tribe of Assam. As you reach, our tour representative will receive you at the Guwahati airport or railway station and escort you to your pre-booked hotel. Go through the check-in formalities and take some rest. This day is at your leisure. You can spend the rest of the day at your hotel or take a city tour of Guwahati. The capital city is dotted with the remains of the Ahom kingdom. The River Brahmaputra has gifted the city some unmatched attractions. You can take a tour of the Umananda Temple. This Shiva temple is located in an Island named Umananda, in the middle of the Brahmaputra. There are several motorboats available to reach Umananda. Another breathtaking spot is Basistha Ashram. This place has a history that relates to the Vedic era. In 1764, Ahom King Rajeswara Singha built here a temple dedicated to Shiva and allotted 835 Bigha of land to the place. By visiting the place you will feel like you have reached the Ashram or house of a monk of the Vedic era. Amidst the absolute serenity, the only sound heard is the chirping of birds and the sound of water streaming through the rocks. You can also visit the famous Kamakhya temple which is considered as one of the fifty-one Shakti Peetha. Located on the top of the Nilachal hill, the temple is flocked by the devotees throughout the year.

On day 2 of your Meghalaya tour, start a scenic drive towards Shillong after having breakfast. The traveling to Shillong is itself an excitement. On the spiral hilly road, there is a turn after every 100 meters. After a drive of about 3 to 4 hours, you will reach the 'Scotland of the East'. On arrival, check into the hotel and have your lunch. The rest of the day is at your leisure. You can visit the Bara Bazar and Police Bazar. You can buy handicrafts and exotic spices from Bara bazar which is a popular marketplace and also known as Lewduh. Police Bazar is the most prominent place for shopping and cultural activities. The first thing you will notice here is the maternalistic culture. The hotels, markets and everything here is controlled by the local women. You can enjoy some musical melody at any corner of the street before returning to your hotel for night stay.

The 3rd day is scheduled for the Shillong tour. Some of the popular attractions that you will visit today are Wards Lake or Pollock's Lake, Shillong peak and popular museums. Wards Lake or Pollock's Lake is a horse-shaped artificial lake located in the middle of the city. Walk on the cobbled path and enjoy the lush garden decorated lake with colorful flowers. You can also enjoy boat riding here. This lake is named after the then Chief Commissioner of Assam, Sir William Ward. You can also explore the nearby Botanical garden.

Thereafter enjoy the delicious lunch at the cafeteria and then head to the Shillong peak. At a height of 6449 ft., the Shillong peak is the highest point in Meghalaya. The observation tower offers a beautiful panoramic view of the entire city. One can also enjoy the mesmerizing views of the waterfalls and the plain land of the neighboring country, Bangladesh. In the evening, visit the popular museums. One of the most famous museums in Shillong is Don Bosco. This seven-storied building has seventeen galleries that exhibit the antiques of the British era. After the tour, get back to your hotel and have a sumptuous dinner. Overnight stay at the hotel in the Shillong.

Day 4 is scheduled for the Shillong Cherrapunji tour. Post breakfast, start your road journey towards Cherrapunjee. This is the second wettest place on earth while its neighbor village Mawsynram is the wettest place. Upon reaching this magical place, visit the popular tourist attractions such as Mawsmai Cave, Nohkalikai Fall, and Elephant Fall. Mawsmai cave is one of the most popular tourist attractions where you can discover magical secrecy inside the cave. Marvel at the spectacular Mawsmai waterfall. Also known as seven sister waterfalls, this is one of the tallest waterfalls in India.

The next attraction of the day is Nohkalikai Fall, one of the highest waterfalls in India. Get wondered at the sight of water plunging from a height of 1100 feet. Next, you will visit the Elephant Falls. The beautiful surroundings of this dramatic waterfall offer an easy trail for trekking. The adventure enthusiasts can also opt for trekking on the living tree bridges which is one of the most prominent reasons to visit Cherrapunjee. The two-tier bridge is 100 feet long and this 150-year old, man-made natural wonder is very popular. In the evening, you will return to the Shillong.

On day 5 morning of your Meghalaya travel package, enjoy the mouthwatering breakfast and get ready to visit the popular Umiam Lake which is commonly known as Barapani Lake. This is a man-made lake that covers an area of 221 square km. It is also the source of freshwater for the locals. The surroundings are wonderful and are filled with the verdant vista of Umami Rivers. A picnic can be planned on the bank of the lake. Visitors can also enjoy boat riding here along with angling, and kayaking Post lunch hit the road to Guwahati. The pleasant weather will accompany you throughout. On arrival, you will have an assisted check-in at the hotel. You can stroll around the streets of the Guwahati and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the city.

This is the last day of your Guwahati Shillong tour package. After enjoying breakfast in the morning, get an assisted transfer to the airport to board the flight for your onward destination.
