Shimla! Known for its natural beauty is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. There is the Sankat Mochan Temple in Shimla’s amazing valleys. At a distance of 5 kilometers on the way to Shimla traveling by road on the left side, you will find the beautiful Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla. The place is so quiet and marvelous that you start to feel relaxed and blessed. The famed Sankat Mochan Temple is situated at a height of 1975 meters above the sea level on the Shimla state highway. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, and it displays the picturesque scenes of Shimla Town and the majestic Himalayan range. Tourists visiting the temple can get lost in the tranquility and peaceful surroundings. The Sankat Mochan Temple is in the midst of lush greenery and a light mist adds a mystical touch to the site.
A saint named Neeb Kirodi baba who is also known as' Neem Karauli Baba has his famous Kanchi Dham ashram situated in Nainital came on this hill called 'Tara Devi' and stayed there in a cottage for about ten to twelve days. As he was meditating at this place thinking to construct a Temple dedicating to Lord Hanuman. Baba told his followers, and finally in 1962, the then Lieutenant Governor, Raja Bajrang Bahadur Singh, the king of Badri, and other devotees of Himachal began construction of the temple. They did not want Hanuman Ji to be the lone idol, hence they installed other idols of Ram-Sita, Lakshmana, Ganpati, and Shankar. The design of the Ganesh temple is designed to show the south Indian architectural style.
The Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla offers several facilities to the people and also consists of a three-storied structure that is used for various purposes. The temple also facilitates the organizing of various rituals including marriage. One part of the building is rented where marriage rituals are performed. The temple asks a small fee for this purpose. Some of the other sacred rituals and ceremonies are also performed there. The rest of the building is used as a residential complex by the Priests and the maintenance staff working there day and night. There are an Ayurvedic clinic and about thirty clean toilets.
As of June 21, 1966, the Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla was duly inaugurated and its continued popularity and acceptance spread far. Today, there are a large number of local people and tourists from all over the country who come to Shimla and don’t leave without visiting the temple. Since it is a Hanuman temple there is a huge crowd on Tuesdays and Saturdays as well as on Sundays. Every Sunday arrangements for meals are made on a large scale. There is also a small shrine inside the temple complex dedicated to Baba Neeb Karori, which was constructed a few years back. There is a belief that truthfully, you will be relieved with all your crisis and pains in life.
